Bats come alive in win over FSC Jacksonville

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 4, 2023) — TCC Baseball is now 3-0 on the young season after a 13-4 win over FSC Jacksonville. The Blue Wave are one of the most successful NJCAA Division II programs in the country, and made an appearance at the Division II World Series in 2022. This was the first matchup between the two teams since February 15, 2021, when the Eagles won 15-3.

FSC Jacksonville took an early lead, scoring a run in the top of the first inning on an RBI single off the bat of Jack Gidcumb. It didn't take long for the Eagles to bounce back after they loaded the bases in the bottom of the first and Jesus Vanegas (INF, RS-Fresh.) unloaded them with a grand slam, his first home run of the season. Vanegas went 2-5 on Saturday with five RBI.

Brennan Baker (RHP/OF, RS-Fresh.) went 2-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles. He came around to score after both of those hits.

It was an all-hands-on-deck effort from the TCC pitching staff on Saturday afternoon. Austin Asbill (LHP, Fresh.) got the start and pitched the first three innings, giving up three runs and striking out five. Asbill was on a controlled pitch count, and was awarded his first win of the season despite only throwing three innings. After that, head coach Bryan Henry turned to Seth Dudley (RHP, RS-Soph.), Harper McLendon (RHP, Soph.), John Costa (RHP, RS-Fresh.), Gercal Reyes-Alvarado (RHP, Soph.), Zach Mizrahi (LHP, Soph.), and Carter Stanford (RHP, Fresh.) to piece together the final six innings. McLendon was the bright spot of that group, throwing 1.1 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three.

Next, TCC will take on Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Tuesday, February 7th at 4:00 PM. The game will not be streamed. Last season, ABAC won the season series 2-1.
