Bio

Frank Schaeffer is entering his first season as Tallahassee Community College’s pitching coach & recruiting coordinator.

Prior to joining the Eagles' staff in August 2014, Schaeffer spent the 2014 season as the pitching coach at neighboring Florida A&M University, where he inherited a staff that consistently ranked in the bottom third of all NCAA Division I schools for the better part of a decade, including overall records of 7-45 and 7-47 in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Under Coach Schaeffer’s direction, the Rattlers set several school records in 2014, including the single-season mark for lowest staff ERA (4.93) – the first sub-5.00 ERA in school history.

Florida A&M also won 26 games and finished with a .500 record for the first time since the 2003, including a win at No. 6 Florida and the program's first-ever win over the University of North Florida. The 2-0 win over North Florida was the pitching staff's first shutout in more than five years, covering 270 games. The Rattlers' pitching staff went on to record three shutouts in 2014.

Coach Schaeffer is also co-founder of the six-time national champion All-American Prospects summer program. During his time with the Prospects, Coach Schaeffer served as the program’s pitching and recruiting coordinator, helping more than 150 players sign college scholarships while another 50-plus were selected in the MLB Draft - including 12 first- and second-round picks. While with the Prospects, Coach Schaeffer helped recruit and coach current big leaguers LHP Paco Rodriguez (Dodgers), RHP Kevin Quackenbush (Padres), RHP Sam Dyson (Marlins), RHP Jon Edwards (Rangers), 3B Manny Machado (Orioles), 3B Nick Castellanos (Tigers), SS Ryan Jackson, OF L.J. Hoes (Astros) and C Adrien Nieto (White Sox) among others.

Schaeffer, 46, resides in Tallahassee with his fiancée, Raniyah Zaky, and their four-year old son Evan. His oldest son, Chris, 27, is a graduate of North Carolina State University and is currently a catcher in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. Schaeffer’s son Matt, 19, is a sophomore pitcher at Tallahassee.
