Bio

Greg Jones is in year two of a second stint as an assistant on the Eagles' coaching staff. His first tenure from 2011-15 was his first NJCAA stop after a high school coaching career that spanned 30 years.

Jones has been head baseball coach at six different north Florida high schools, beginning with Suwannee County High School (1978-80). He also served in the same capacity at Union County High School (1980-82), Niceville High School (1983-85), Choctawhatchee High School (1985-87), Tallahassee's Leon High School (1990-99) and Chiles (2000-09). 

Of note, Jones' tenure at Leon included a 225-75 record and the 1998 Class 5A State Championship, a team that included Garrett McLeod, son of Tallahassee head coach Mike McLeod. In addition, Leon was state runners-up in 1993 and advanced to the state quarterfinals in 1994 and state semifinals in 1995.

Following a highly successful stop at Leon, Jones was called upon to start Chiles' baseball program from scratch when the school opened on Tallahassee's northeast side in the fall of 1999. In 2000, he coached a JV team comprised of freshmen and sophomores. By 2009, Chiles was playing for a state championship, although it had to settle for the runners-up trophy. Jones' varsity coaching record at Chiles was 164-91 while the overall program put together a record of 492-200.

In 24 seasons as a head varsity coach, Jones' overall record stands at a respectable 447-228.

Jones also served as a graduate assistant on Mike Martin's staff at Florida State University in 1982-83, where he coached the outfielders.

In all, more than 130 of Jones' former players have gone on to play baseball in the college ranks.

A three-sport high school athlete at Tallahassee's Godby High School, Jones excelled in football, where he was an all-state quarterback and Big Bend Offensive Player of the Year in 1973.  He originally took his quarterback skills to the University of Florida but transferred back to Florida State University prior to the start of school as a freshman in the fall of 1974. As a sophomore, he made the switch from the gridiron to the diamond and joined the Seminoles' baseball team. In three seasons, he played seven different positions and, as a senior in 1978, served as co-captain.

In his spare time, Jones enjoys golf, hunting and fishing. 

He and his wife Kelly, are the parents of a son, Hunter, who played on TCC’s 2012 team, and a daughter, Ali.
