Bio

Scott Phillips is entering his third season as a member of the Eagles' coaching staff. He stayed on as a volunteer assistant after serving as an instructor for the Mike McLeod Capital City Baseball School in the summer of 2014.

A former college pitcher, Phillips signed a baseball scholarship with Radford University in 1992 but suffered an injury during his freshman season. Rather than accept a medical redshirt, he transferred to Bluefield College. Ultimately, injuries shortened Phillips' playing career and he pursued coaching.

Phillips' first coaching opportunity came in 1994 at Shawsville High School in southwest Virginia as assistant varsity head coach, where he helped lead the team to the state regional playoffs. After some time away from the game for school and to develop a career in a managerial role for Yokohama Tire, Phillips resumed coaching in 2003, and four the next three years, led Dixie League programs in baseball, basketball and football.

From 2006-13, he served as assistant head coach and pitching coordinator for the Salem Suns travel baseball team. The Suns won over 75 percent of its tournament games played, as well as two state AAA championships.

In addition to the Mike McLeod Capital City Baseball School, Phillips garnered camp experience at Virginia Tech in 2012 as a summer baseball camp instructor for former coach Pete Hughes, now the head baseball coach at the University of Oklahoma.

Phillips, a lifelong supporter of Florida State athletics and member of the Seminole Boosters, relocated to Tallahassee in February 2014, along with his wife, Kathy, who is employed by the Tallahassee Neurological Center as a physician assistant. They are the proud parents of four children - Caleb, Alexa, Eamon and Vance.
