TCC men hit the road for test at Gordon State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 27, 2012) - Tallahassee Community College's five-game winning streak will face a major test on Tuesday evening when it travels to Barnesville, Ga., for a 7:30 p.m. date against nationally-ranked Gordon State College in NJCAA men's basketball action.

After dropping two of three to start the season, Tallahassee (6-2) rebounded with road wins at Florida State College at Jacksonville, St. Petersburg College and Daytona State College before sweeping a pair of games at last week's TCC Basketball Thanksgiving Classic presented by G&G Caribbean Restaurant.

None of those opponents, however, figure to test the Eagles' meddle as much as the Highlanders (6-1), who are currently ranked No. 18 in the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Poll, although a new poll will be released prior to this evening's game.

According to Tallahassee assistant coach Daniel Batson, the Eagles are prepared to face the "most raucous crowd (we) have seen yet and, perhaps, the biggest crowd as well" when they stroll into Gordon State's Alumni Memorial Hall.

Tallahassee is sure to remember its last trip to Gordon State – a 78-77 loss on November 15, 2011 – a game that served as a springboard to the Highlanders' NJCAA Region 17 championship and the school's first berth in the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan.

Tonight's game can be viewed on NJCAA TV powered by iHigh.

Men's basketball scheduling update

Tallahassee's November 30 game against Lawson State (Ala.) Community College in Marianna, Fla., at the Milton H. Johnson Panhandle Classic has been cancelled. The game will not be rescheduled. The Eagles will play their regularly scheduled game against Santa Fe College on Saturday, December 1 at the Classic.

FCSAA Poll Update

The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its men's and women's basketball coaches' polls for November 27. The Eagle men moved up on spot to No. 6 while the Lady Eagles stayed put at No. 5 for a second straight week.

The polls are dominated by the Panhandle Conference, as all five PC schools are ranked in both the men's and women's coaches' polls.

The men's rankings are led by No. 1 Northwest Florida State College and No. 2 Chipola College. Gulf Coast State College is No. 5 and Pensacola State College is No. 8.

On the women's side, all five teams are ranked within the top seven. Northwest Florida State and Chipola share the top spot in the rakings while Gulf Coast State is No. 3. Pensacola State is ranked seventh.
