Eagles Host Capital Courtyard Classic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 24, 2014) – The TCC Eagles men's and women's basketball teams will host the Capital Courtyard Classic this week on November 25-27.  The Capital Courtyard Classic will feature 12 games over three days.

On Tuesday the Classic will feature three women teams and showcase some national talent.  The games will tip-off at 4 pm with a game between Daytona State (Fla.) College and Walters State (Ten.) Community College followed by a game that will feature nationally ranked Chipola College who will take on College of Central Florida.

The Eagle women will play in the final game of the night as they take on Southern Union State (Ala.) Community College.  This will be the first meeting between the Eagles and the Bison.  The Bison average 62 points a game over nine games and come in with a 7-2 record with both losses coming at home.  Kendall Adams leads the Bison in scoring and is the source of the majority of their offense.  Adams averages 16 points a game on 44 percent shooting and also leads the team in rebounds pulling down 9.7 boards a game.

The second day of the Classic will feature five games and begin at 12pm.  The Eagles women will take on Daytona State College at 4pm.  This will be the 17th meeting between these teams with the series split at 8-8.  The last meeting between these two teams saw the Falcons pull out a close 60-58 victory.  The Falcons are led by the duo of Monterika Warren who averages a12 points a game and Brittney Chambers with 10.9 points a game.  The Falcons come into the Classic with an 8-1 record with their only loss coming on the road to St. Petersburg College.

The men's portion of the Classic will feature Northwest Florida State College, Southwest Tennessee Community College, Jefferson Davis Community College, and TCC.  The Eagles will finish off the night with an 8:30pm tipoff against Jefferson Davis.  The Warhawks come into the game with a 1-3 record and average 60.5 points a game.  Fletcher Forte and Kennan Williams both lead the Warhawks with 11 points a game.  Adrian Rich anchors the Warhawks defensively and pulls down 9 boards a game. 

The final day of the Classic will include four games split between the men and women.  Men's action tips off the day with an early 10 a.m. game between Northwest Florida State and Jeff Davis. Women's action between Chipola and Southern Union follows at noon. The afternoon session begins at 2:30 p.m. with women's action between Tallahassee and Walters State.

The Senators bring an undefeated record into the classic and average a 74.5 points a game.  Jephany Brown and Tangela Crenshaw lead the Senators in scoring with Crenshaw coming off the bench.  Both are averaging double figures in scoring also lead the team in rebounds.  Bria White also adds to their threat on the boards.

The Eagle men's final game will tip-off at 4:30pm against Southwest Tennessee.  The Saluqis feature a high scoring offense that averages 95.6 points a game and currently hold an undefeated record.  The high power Saluqis offense includes four players that that average double figures in scoring.  Rasheed Brooks and Johnathan Burroughs-Cook lead the team in scoring averaging over 15 points a game, on 54 and 55 percent shooting respectively.  The Saluqis also feature threats on the defensive side of the ball with Jimario Rivers and Kelon Alexander pulling down an average of seven boards apiece.

Admission to the Classic is $5 but is free for all TCC Students Faculty/Staff with a valid ID.
