TCC releases 2016-17 basketball schedules

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 25, 2016) – Tallahassee Community College released its 2016-17 men’s and women’s basketball schedules on Monday. 

Both teams will enjoy a heavy dose of action inside the friendly confines of the Bill Hebrock Eagledome, beginning with opening night, Tuesday, November 1, when the Eagle men and women host a doubleheader. 

The Eagle women, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Franqua “Q” Bedell, will welcome 2016 NJCAA Division I Tournament participant Daytona State College for a 5:30 p.m. tip followed by men’s action at 7:30 p.m. against Faith Baptist (Ga.) Christian Academy. 

The Tallahassee women will play 15 of its 28 games at home while the Eagle men will take the home floor for 16 of their 30 contests. 

Second-year head coach Mark White and the Eagle men will play their first three games at home. Following the season opener, Tallahassee will host the Seals Financial Tip-off Classic, Friday and Saturday, November 4 and 5. The Eagles will play Atlanta (Ga.) Metro State College and South Georgia Technical College. 

Following a trip to Albany (Ga.) Technical College on Tuesday, November 8, the Eagles will enjoy a seven-day break before Santa Fe College arrives for a doubleheader with the Eagle women on Tuesday, November 15. 

Tallahassee will make the short drive to Marianna, Fla., for a pair of games in the Chipola College Classic, Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19, then play a home-and-home with Hillsborough Community College. The teams will play in Tampa, Fla., on Monday, November 21 and in Tallahassee on Tuesday, November 29. 

December opens with a visit from Albany Tech on Thursday, December 1 then back-to-back road games at St. Petersburg College (Saturday, December 3) and South Georgia Tech (Monday, December 5). 

The Eagles will travel to either Gainesville, Fla., or Ocala, Fla., for two games in the annual Florida College’s Men’s Basketball Shootout, Saturday and Sunday, December 10 and 11, then close the pre-Christmas schedule with home games against Red Devils Basketball Academy (Tuesday, December 13) and St. Petersburg (Friday, December 16). 

As for the remainder of the Eagle women’s non-conference slate, a southern swing will garner games at Indian River State College and Miami Dade College on Monday and Tuesday, November 7 and 8, respectively. 

Following the home date with Santa Fe on November 15, Tallahassee will host the Capital Courtyard Classic, Thursday-Saturday, November 17-19, an event that will feature both high school and collegiate action. The Eagles’ three opponents will be Georgia Highlands College, a 2016 NJCAA Division I Tournament participant, West Georgia Technical College, who finished fourth in the 2016 NJCAA Division III Tournament, and IMG Academy. 

Up next is a trip to Athens, Texas, for games in Trinity Valley Community College’s Budke/Serna Classic, where the Eagles will play McLennan (Texas) College and Panola (Texas) College. 

After a two-year hiatus, the Florida College’s Women’s Basketball Shootout returns on Friday and Saturday, December 2 and 3 and with two new host sites - Tallahassee Community College and Chipola College, representing the Panhandle Conference in year one of three-year rotation with the Mid-Florida and Southern Conferences. 

The Eagles will play Santa Fe and Florida State College at Jacksonville, though dates and game times will be announced at a later date. 

Tallahassee will head to the Christmas break with three straight games on the road – at St. Petersburg (Saturday, December 10) and two games at the Northwest Florida State College Holiday Classic (Wednesday and Thursday, December 14 and 15). 

After a two-week break, Tallahassee’s men and women will close the non-conference schedule by hosting the Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic, Thursday and Friday, December 29 and 30. 

The Tallahassee men will play Three Rivers (Mo.) Community College and Northeast Mississippi Community College while the women will play Florida State College at Jacksonville and Northeast Mississippi. 

The 12-game Panhandle Conference schedule will open for both teams on Saturday, January 7 at Pensacola State College. The Eagles’ PC home opener is three days later, Tuesday, January 10 against Gulf Coast State College, a doubleheader that will pit Tallahassee against the defending NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Champions. 

Tallahassee’s PC home schedule also includes dates with Northwest Florida State (January 21 and February 25), Pensacola State (January 24), Chipola (January 31) and a return visit from Gulf Coast State (February 14).
