#TCCBasketball: Eagles hold on for win at Hillsborough

TAMPA, Fla. (November 21, 2016) – Region 8 No. 3 Tallahassee Community College withstood a second-half rally from Hillsborough Community College and defeated the Hawks 79-67 on Monday evening in men's basketball action.

Tallahassee (8-0) has now won eight in a row to open the season while Hillsborough dropped to 2-5.

Freshman guard Jacob Winston led four Eagles in double-figures with 20 points. Deion Bute added 16, Jeremy Hayes, 12, and Ronald Bell, 11.

Tallahassee led 35-25 at the intermission and opened the second half on a 23-10 run to extend its lead to 23 points (58-35). But the host Hawks didn't go away quietly.

Hillsborough got as close as five points, but some timely shooting from Kiair Crouch and Hayes enabled Tallahassee to avoid the upset bug that bit the top two teams in last week's Region 8 Coaches' Poll.

Top-ranked Northwest Florida State College fell to San Jacinto (Texas) College on Saturday night while No. 2 Eastern Florida State College lost at St. Petersburg College last Tuesday.

The new Region 8 Men's Coaches' Poll will be released Tuesday.

Tallahassee will return to play next Tuesday evening when it hosts Hillsborough in the back end of a home-and-home between the two schools.
