#TCCBasketball: St. Pete ends Eagles’ season

OCALA, Fla. (March 9, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College's men's basketball season came to an end on Thursday with a 66-60 loss to St. Petersburg College in quarterfinal round action at the FCSAA State/NJCAA District Tournament. 

Tallahassee finished its season 24-7.

The game was tied at 53-all with 6:34 left, but Tallahassee scored only two points over the next four minutes, enabling St. Petersburg to take a 60-55 lead by the 2:46 mark. 

The Eagles didn't go away quietly, however. Jacob Winston's three-pointer cut a six-point deficit in half and the game entered the final minute with St. Petersburg leading 62-60. 

On the ensuing inbounds play, St. Petersburg's Ahmad Clark went coast to coast to make it a two-possession game and effectively knock out the Eagles. 

Kiair Crouch scored 15 points to lead Tallahassee. Jeremy Hayes and Jacob Winston scored 13 points each of the bench. 

Tallahassee's plight was aided by a slow start. The Eagles managed just eight points through the game's first 11 minutes and trailed 19-8 at the 9:06 mark. 

Tallahassee finally got untracked and, later in the half, back-to-back threes from Crouch brought the Eagles within 24-22 at the 3:41 mark. 

Hayes hit a pair of free throws to give Tallahassee its first lead, 28-26, with one minute left in the half, but St. Petersburg scored five unanswered points and led 31-28 at the intermission.
