#TCCBasketball: Eagles close strong to down Mineral Area

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (November 4, 2017) – NJCAA No. 13/Region 8 No. 4 Tallahassee Community College closed the game on a 19-3 run to knock off Mineral Area (Mo.) College, 73-58, on the final day of the First Midwest Bank Classic, hosted by Three Rivers (Mo.) College.

Tallahassee returns home with two impressive road victories and will rest up until playing its home opener next Saturday against South Georgia Technical College.

After taking a 40-29 lead to the locker room, Tallahassee's offense stalled and could only muster 14 points over the first 15-plus minutes of the second half. Mineral Area took advantage, chipping away at the deficit, then eventually taking its first lead of the game, 55-54, on Roman Young's three-pointer with 5:35 left in the game.

Tallahassee answered to regain the lead, but the game was still hanging in the balance until a 10-0 run, capped by Trevor Lewis' fifth three-pointer of the game, put the Eagles in front 69-56 with 2:37 remaining.

Lewis scored 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from behind the arc and was one of four players to score in double-figures for Tallahassee.

Quentin Jackson paced the Eagles with 17 points. Corey Douglas joined Lewis with 15 points and Javien Williams had 10.

Tallahassee blistered the nets in the first half, shooting 15-of-27 from the field (55.6 percent) en route to its 11-point halftime lead. The Eagles shot 51.0 percent (25-of-49) for the game while limiting Mineral Area to 33.3 percent (18-of-54).

Tallahassee also enjoyed another double-digit rebound margin on the boards. After outrebounding Three Rivers by 13 on Friday, the Eagles enjoyed a 38-27 advantage against Mineral Area.

Next Saturday's game against South Georgia Tech, part of the Seals Financial Tip-off Classic, will begin at noon.
