#TCCBasketball: Eagles’ upset bid falls short

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 3, 2018) – Northwest Florida State College remained undefeated on the season following a 79-71 win over Tallahassee Community College in men's basketball action on Saturday.

The Raiders are now 25-0 (8-0 Panhandle Conference) while Tallahassee dropped to 15-8 (2-5 PC). The Eagles, however, didn't lose any ground in the conference standings as second-place Chipola College (4-3) was upset at home by Pensacola State College.

Tallahassee remains two games back of Chipola in the loss column with five games to play.

Outside of a brief 6-5 lead early in the game, Tallahassee trailed wire-to-wire although the Raiders didn't put the game away until the final five minutes.

For the second straight meeting, Northwest Florida State shot lights out from the floor. The Raiders were consistent throughout, shooting 56.3 percent (18-of-32) in the first half and 56.0 percent (14-of-25) after the intermission.

A 15-5 run by the Raiders turned a 17-all tie into a 32-22 lead at the 9:20 mark of the first half. Tallahassee's deficit eventually reached eleven (37-26) before outscoring Northwest Florida State, 14-4, over the final six minutes to pull within one at the half, 41-40.

Tallahassee was within three (61-58) at the midway point of the second half but a 7-1 run gave the Raiders some much-needed separation and a 68-59 lead at the 6:55 mark.

The Eagles could get no closer than five the rest of the way.

Corey Douglas led all scorers with 23 points for Tallahassee. Javien Williams scored 15 and Leon Freeman-Daniels, 12.

Tallahassee will return to play on Wednesday when it travels to Pensacola State College. Game time is 8:30 p.m. eastern.
