#TCCBasketball: Eagle men fall on buzzer-beater

PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 7, 2018) – Pensacola State College's Gerald Williams hit two three-pointers in the final 15 seconds, the second coming at the buzzer, to defeat Tallahassee Community College, 81-80, on Wednesday evening. 

Tallahassee's already slim postseason hopes took a major hit with the loss. The Eagles (15-9) are 2-6 in Panhandle Conference play, three games back of second-place Chipola College with just four games remaining. Pensacola State (15-10), meanwhile, won for the third straight game and pulled to within one game of Chipola. 

The Eagles looked to be in good shape after two free throws from Trevor Lewis gave them an 80-75 lead with 14.7 seconds left. 

With time running out, Pensacola State needed a quick basket and got just that, courtesy Williams, whose pull-up three-pointer took the high bounce and dropped, cutting Tallahassee's lead to 80-78 with 6.6 seconds remaining. 

Still, the Eagles appeared in the driver's seat with Lewis going back to the free throw with 5.7 on the clock, but he missed both attempts, opening the door for the Pirates. 

Williams rebounded the second miss, hurried up the floor and launched a three-pointer. The shot took another high bounce and clanged around the rim three times before finally falling after the buzzer had sounded to give Pensacola State the win. 

Pensacola State led 42-37 at the half and extended its lead to 49-42 less than three minutes into the second half. 

Tallahassee will travel to Gulf Coast State College on Saturday for an 8:30 p.m. eastern tip with the Commodores.
