Eagles hit century mark against Coastal-North

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 3, 2019) – Five players scored in double-figures for NJCAA No. 9/Region 8 No. 3 Tallahassee Community College in a convincing 103-59 victory over visiting Coastal Alabama Community College-North on Tuesday evening.

Tallahassee (11-1) has won four straight and is the first team in Region 8 to reach 11 wins on the season.

Coastal-North (0-11) is still seeking its first victory but nine of its 11 losses have come to teams in the Panhandle Conference. Early on, the Alabama-based Eagles went toe-to-toe with the hosts, twice leading by five points and led 13-12, seven minutes in, following James Russell's basket.

Tallahassee's first big run of the night – a 19-0 spurt over a five-minute span – gave it a 31-13 lead at the 8:14 mark of the first half. A four-minute scoring drought ensued, allowing Coastal-North to pull within 31-21 with 4:30 left in the half. Tallahassee's lead reached 19 before settling for a 49-34 lead at the half.

In the second half, a 22-0 run put the game away for Tallahassee. Consecutive baskets by Jordan Guest, the second coming on one of his seven offensive rebounds, started the scoring flurry. By the time Deandre Robinson drained a three-pointer, his first points of the season, at the 8:48 mark, Tallahassee's lead was 75-41.

For Coastal-North, the scoring drought, which consumed almost eight-and-a-half minutes, included 17 consecutive missed field goal attempts and six turnovers.

Tallahassee led by as many as 46 as head coach Zach Settembre watched 11 of the 12 players who saw action on Tuesday enter the scoring column.

Tariq Silver led all players with 21 points. Guest recorded a double-double, 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Yahel Hill and Eric Hester came off the bench to score 13 and 12 points, respectively, while El Ellis had 12.

Seven different players knocked down three-pointers, led by five from Silver, and the team's 40 attempts was just one shy of tying a school record.

Roy Jones, III, son of former boxing champion Roy Jones, Jr., led Coastal-North with 20 points.

Tallahassee will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Florida State College at Jacksonville. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.
