El Ellis named National Player of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 17, 2021) – Tallahassee Community College men's basketball standout El Ellis has been named the Division I Player of the Week by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Ellis received NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Week honors on Tuesday.

A sophomore guard from Durham, N.C., Ellis is widely considered the top two-year college prospect in the country. In three games last week, he averaged 18.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 7.0 assists in three games. He shot 45.0 percent (18-of-40) from the field, 42.1 percent (8-of-19) on threes and 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the free throw line.

Behind Ellis, the top-ranked Eagles picked up three Panhandle Conference victories in the span of five days, including a win over Chipola College in a battle of nationally-ranked teams.

In the Chipola victory, Ellis recorded his first career double-double – 23 points and 10 assists – and also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

Ellis is the first Eagle to garner NJCAA Player of the Week honors since Jermaine Dixon in 2007.
