Four athletes head to Track and Field nationals

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – It's been an illustrious season for TCC Track and Field, with multiple school records broken and four athletes qualifying for the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Hobbs, New Mexico. It is the first time TCC has had four athletes qualify for the competition, which begins on Thursday, May 18 and concludes on Saturday, May 20. Sophomores Troy Williams and Raeven Byrd, as well as freshmen Justin Moore and Lynette Scutari will represent the Eagles in Hobbs, competing in various events.

Williams (Soph.) has qualified for the second straight year for the 400 meter hurdles. Last year in Hutchinson, Kansas, Williams finished 11th in the preliminary round with a time of 54.27. His new personal best for this event is now 52.29, which would have been good enough for a second-place finish at the NJCAA Championships last year.

Byrd (Soph.) is the other sophomore who is headed to Hobbs this week, competing in the triple jump. At the Alice Sims Invitational last week, she reached a new personal best and set a school record in the triple jump, hitting 10.67 meters.

Moore (Fresh.) will compete in the 400 meter dash. He posted his best time of the season (51.07) in that event at the PURE Athletics Spring Invitational on April 23 in Clermont, FL.

Scutari (Fresh.) qualified for both the 100 and 200 meter dash events. She has continuously set personal and school records in both of those events, with her best times coming at the team's most recent meet, the Alice Sims Invitational in Tallahassee where she posted an 11.86 in the 100 meter, and a 25.56 in the 200 meter. She is the first women's track and field athlete to run the 100 meter dash in under 12 seconds in school history.
