TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 5, 2013) – FCSAA No. 9 Tallahassee Community College (5-7) and No. 10  Santa Fe College (4-4) split a doubleheader on Tuesday in a battle of top ten teams from the state of Florida.

Tallahassee took game one, 3-2, in eight innings while Santa Fe won the nightcap, 3-1 in a game that was called after five innings due to darkness.

In the opener, Tallahassee's Brenda Santana broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run in the fifth. The Eagles plated a second run in the inning and took a 2-0 lead to the bottom of the seventh.

Down to their final out, the Saints' Megan McDonald stepped in and delivered a two-out, two-run single to tie the score at 2-2 and send the game to extra innings.

With the international tie-breaker in effect, Tallahassee went to work quickly in the eighth. Leadoff hitter Marina Cobbs doubled to center, scoring Krista Garcia from second with what proved to be the game-winning run.

Ashley Dobson picked up the game one win in the circle for Tallahassee.

Santana finished 2-for-4 with the home run.

In game two, the Saints put two runs on the board in the first off Tallahassee starter and losing pitcher Krysta Hoani

Tallahassee got a run back in the fourth but that was all the offense the Eagles could muster in game two.

At the end of the fifth inning, the umpires determined it was too dark to safely continue the game and it was called.

Ashley Heath-Smith was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Alexis Huss was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Tallahassee is off until February 12 when it hosts Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College in its home opener at the TCC Softball Complex. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m.
