TCC Softball suffers sweep to Gulf Coast State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 22, 2013) – After splitting six consecutive doubleheaders, Tallahassee Community College suffered a sweep on Friday to Panhandle Conference foe Gulf Coast State College.

The Commodores won by the scores of 12-2 and 17-3 to drop Tallahassee to 1-3 in PC play. The Eagles are now .500 overall on the season at 17-17.

Gulf Coast State improved to 33-9 (3-1 PC).

Game one was up for grabs until Gulf Coast State scored four runs in the fifth and added three more in the sixth to turn a 2-0 lead into a nine-run cushion.

Down to its final out in the bottom half, Tallahassee's Brenda Santana drilled a two-run homer over the left field fence to extend the game and end game one starter and winning pitcher Ollivia McLemore's shutout bid.

The Commodores put three more runs on the board in the seventh then continued the offensive surge in the nightcap, scoring six runs in their first at-bat against the Eagles' Krysta Hoani

Trailing 10-1, Tallahassee was again down to its final three outs but extended the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Like game one, Gulf Coast State answered with a big inning, this time plating seven runs in the top of the sixth.

McLemore picked up the game one win while Paige Caraway was the winning pitcher in the nightcap.

Ashley Dobson took the game one loss for Tallahassee while Hoani was the losing pitcher in game two.

Tallahassee returns to play on Thursday when it travels to Northwest Florida State College for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. eastern.
