Matautia, Rivera claim NJCAA Player of the Week honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 9, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College's Te Reo Powhiri Matautia and Mariah Rivera were named NJCAA Division I Softball Player and the Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Matautia and Rivera received the honor based on games from April 28 through May 4.

Matautia, a freshman outfielder from Mangere Bridge, Auckland, New Zealand, batted .480 (12-for-25) with three home runs and eight RBI in five games during the voting period.

Rivera, a freshman pitcher from Tallahassee, Fla., went 3-0 with a 1.12 ERA in three appearances in the circle.

All of Matautia's and Rivera's statistics were compiled during play at the NJCAA Region 8B/FCSAA State Softball Tournament in Pensacola, Fla., which Tallahassee won.

Matautia was named tournament most valuable player and was joined on the all-tournament team by Rivera.

Due to flooding, which pushed the tournament back one day, Monday's games against Polk State College and the College of Central Florida were not taken into consideration for the award.
