Eagles Split with Pirates in PC Play

By Karl Hunt, TCC Sports Information

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 3, 2015) – It was a tale of two games as the Tallahassee Community College Eagles split a doubleheader with the Pensacola State College Pirates Friday evening.

The Eagles are now 24-12 on the season and the split was enough to give them sole possession of third place in the Panhandle Conference standings at 4-6.

In game one, the Eagles struggled offensively as the Pirates stole a 1-0 victory.

Pensacola State scored the game's only run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles managed four hits in the game but were unable to convert those into runs.

Gabrielle Decker got the start for the Eagles and pitched seven innings in the game one loss.  She is now 5-5 this season.

Game two was a different story for the Eagles who, after two scoreless innings, started to heat up.

The Eagles struck first with a run in the third inning.  Brianna Tourtillott scored the first run off a single to left by Danielle Ekberg to take a 1-0 lead.

Pensacola State didn't waste any time answering back with a run of its own in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1.

However, the Eagles answered back scoring two runs to regain the lead.  After loading the bases, Kayla Boucher hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Danielle Patterson scored.  Taesha DuBoise scored the inning's final run on a single to center by Kiara Johnson

At this point the Eagles held a 3-1 lead but the Pirates wouldn't go away tying the game again in the fifth inning with a pair of runs.

Again, the Eagles answered right back, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Back to back doubles by Ekberg and Shelby Manns gave the Eagles the lead for good.  Tallahassee added an insurance run plating Manns on a single hit to center by DuBoise.

Ekberg went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Mariah Rivera got the start for the Eagles and pitched 4.1 innings, striking out two batters.  Alexandra Cook entered the game in relief and earned the win tonight, her eighth of the season.

The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, April 7 when they travel to Panama City to take on Gulf Coast State College.
