#TCCSoftball wins pair of 8-0 games vs. Andrew

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 14, 2016) - Tallahassee Community College's softball team swept a doubleheader from Andrew (Ga.) College on Monday, winning both games by identical 8-0 scores.

Both wins came in walk-off fashion as the Eagles scored the decisive run in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game via the run rule.

Tallahassee (14-10) will carry a season-high five-game winning streak into Wednesday's Panhandle Conference opener against Northwest Florida State College.

In Monday's opener, Raya Moncus and Alexandra Cook teamed up on a four-hit shutout.

Moncus limited the Tigers to just one hit over the first three innings before handing things off to Cook (8-4), who matched her teammate with three scoreless innings to notch the victory.

Cook allowed three hits and struck out five. Neither pitcher issued a walk.

The game went to the bottom of the fifth with Tallahassee clinging to a 1-0 lead, but Casey Durham's leadoff double ignited a four-run inning. Two batters later, Alycia Smith tripled home Durham and Brooke Marendino, and Smith scored when right fielder Abigail Fuller mishandled a deep fly ball off the bat of Kristin Gunter

Gunter later scored on a passed ball to give the Eagles a five-run cushion.

After Andrew was retired in order in the top of the sixth, Tallahassee ended the game with three more runs in the bottom half.

An inside-the-park home run by Marendino accounted for two runs. Three batters later, Madisen Blair singled home Gunter from second with the game-ending run.

Game two followed a similar script.

Tallahassee led just 1-0 in the fourth then, aided by a couple of Andrew errors, scored six runs – all with two outs – to blow the game open.

Khayreyah Parrish's infield single scored Blair, and Smith singled home Jaylene Pryor and Parrish for a 4-0 lead. Gunter plated Marendino and Smith on a double to right-center and later scored on a wild pitch.

Leading 7-0, Parrish led off the sixth with a single and took second on the throw back in to the circle. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored the game-ending run on Smith's infield single.

Meanwhile, Brooke Bates (1-1) picked up the win in the circle, tossing a one-hit shutout. She didn't allow any walks and struck out two.

Smith was 2-for-4 in each game and finished with five total RBIs on the afternoon.

Blair went 3-for-3 in game one and finished the doubleheader 4-for-6.

Parrish was 2-for-2, scored two runs and drove in one in game two.

Wednesday's doubleheader begins at 4 p.m.
