Despite having completed its 16-game Panhandle Conference schedule on Monday, Tallahassee qualified for the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Softball Tournament by virtue of Chipola College’s doubleheader sweep against Pensacola State College on Friday evening.

The 16-team, double elimination tournament begins Friday, April 29 and continues through Sunday, May 1 at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla.

Tallahassee (21-21, 5-11 PC) earned the PC’s No. 4 seed, finishing one game ahead of Pensacola State (4-12), and will open postseason play at 1:30 p.m., April 29 against Southern Conference Champion Indian River State College. The Pioneers are currently 38-7 overall and ranked third in the country.

Win or lose, the Eagles will play a second game at 6:30 p.m. against either the Suncoast Conference Runners-up or the No. 3 seed from the Mid-Florida Conference.

The final two teams remaining in the tournament will advance to the NJCAA Division I Softball Championship in St. George, Utah.
