#TCCSoftball takes two at Visit Dothan Invitational

DOTHAN, Ala. (February 10, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College's softball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday at the Visit Dothan Invitational hosted by Chipola College. 

The Eagles knocked off Snead (Ala.) State Community College, 2-1, and Coastal Alabama Community College-East, 11-4. 

In the first game of the day, Samantha Malik's RBI-single won it in the bottom of the seventh, her second walk-off hit in the last three games. 

Snead State broke a scoreless tie with a fourth-inning run against Tallahassee starter Sidney Mathis, but the Eagles answered right back in the top of the fifth. 

Jaycee Thomas led off the inning with a single and moved into a scoring position on Brandie Callaway's sac-bunt. Thomas advanced to third on Malik's second hit of the game and scored on Olivia Russell's sac-fly. 

The score remained tied at one heading to the bottom of the seventh when the same cast of characters delivered a similar script. 

A single by Thomas and sac-bunt by Callaway moved the winning run into scoring position for Malik, who completed a 3-for-4 performance with another single, only this time Thomas scored from second with the winning run. 

Mathis (2-2) scattered nine hits in the complete-game victory. 

Against Coastal Alabama-East, formerly known as Jefferson Davis Community College, Tallahassee racked up 19 hits in the 11-4 victory. 

The Eagles wasted no time jumping in front, scoring two runs in the first. 

Thomas led off the game with a single and advanced to second on an error. She scored on a triple to right-center by Callaway. Russell's sac-fly plated Callaway for a 2-0 lead. 

The Eagles increased their lead to 5-0 in the third before the Warhawks pulled to within 5-3 entering the sixth. 

Callen DeLucas' two-run double in the sixth scored Russell and D'kota Cassady to cap a three-run inning and give Tallahassee some breathing room. The Eagles tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh. 

Nine of Tallahassee's 19 hits went for extra bases. Russell and DeLucas, both 3-for-5, had two doubles apiece while Russell also tripled. 

Callaway was 3-for-5 and finished a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. 

Callie Paine (1-1) earned the win in the circle for Tallahassee. She allowed three hits and three runs (one earned) over 4.1 innings. Shaquoya Williams and Hanna Stapleton combined to one-hit Coastal Alabama over the final 2.1 innings. 

Tallahassee will travel to Santa Fe College on Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
