#TCCSoftball: Eagles split at South Georgia State Triangle

DOUGLAS, Ga. (February 17, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College defeated South Georgia State College, 9-7, to salvage a split at Saturday's South Georgia State College Triangle.

The Eagles dropped a 7-3 decision to Lake Land (Ill.) College in Saturday's first game.

Against South Georgia State, the Eagles had just eight hits but took advantage of six errors by the Hawks in the 9-7 win.

Tallahassee took control of the game with a five-run second inning.

Trailing 2-1, Kacie Dobyanski's single scored Krystal Haynes to tie the game. The Eagles did the rest of their damage with two outs.

Samantha Malik singled home Monica Marquez and Dobyanski, and Olivia Russell followed with another two-RBI hit to give Tallahassee a 6-2 lead.

Back-to-back RBI-singles by Jaycee Thomas and Brandie Callaway in the fourth increased the Eagles' lead to 8-3.

That proved to be enough offensive support for Callie Paine (2-1), who pitched a complete game to earn the victory.

Thomas was the only Eagle with multiple hits. She went 2-for-4, scored twice and was one of six players to drive in a run.

Tallahassee managed just three hits in its first game of the day against NJCAA No. 9 Lake Land.

The Eagles drew first blood, plating a second-inning run on D'Kota Cassady's RBI-groundout.

The Lakers got all the offense they needed in the third, scoring six runs against Tallahassee starter Sidney Mathis (2-3).

Tallahassee will host South Georgia State in a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m.
