#TCCSoftball: Eagles drop one, tie one at Santa Fe

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 1, 2018) – After Tallahassee Community College dropped game one of Thursday's softball doubleheader at Santa Fe College, the teams played to a 6-6 tie in game two.

The second game was stopped after six innings due to darkness, the first tie in head coach Patti Townsend's 15 seasons with the Eagles.

In the opener, the host Saints scored a 6-5, come-from-behind victory.

Tallahassee (8-12-1) led 5-1 through 2.5 innings. The Eagles got on the board in the second when Aliyah Guillium doubled home Monica Marquez, who reached base with a one-out single.

After Santa Fe tied the game in its half of the second, Tallahassee exploded for four runs in the third. Six straight batters reached base beginning with a one-out walk to Callen DeLucas. She and Samantha Malik scored the first two runs of the inning courtesy of Marquez' double.

Ismay Poot singled home Russell and Guilliam hit into a fielder's choice to score Marquez for a 5-1 lead.

Santa Fe cut the lead in half in its next bat on one swing – a two-run homer by Haissette Escudero. Bailey Moll's solo homer in the fourth pulled the Saints to within one.

Aided by two Tallahassee errors, Santa Fe scored the tying and go-ahead runs in the sixth.

Tallahassee threatened in the seventh but a double play erased Jaycee Thomas, who led off the inning with a single. Then, with two runners on and two outs, Marquez lined out to second to end the game.

Marquez was 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in two runs. Guilliam had two RBI.

Callie Paine (3-3) took the loss for Tallahassee.

In game two, Tallahassee scored three runs in the third to erase a 2-0 deficit and led 4-2 in the fifth when Santa Fe put four runs on the board to go in front.

Down to what turned out to be its final out, Malik extended the game by drawing a walk to load the bases. Russell followed with a single to left, scoring D'kota Cassady and Brandie Callaway

Russell finished 3-for-4. Marquez was 1-for-3 but drove in three runs.

Tallahassee will travel to Sanford, Fla., for a pair of games both Saturday and Sunday in an event hosted by Seminole State College.
