#TCCSoftball: Eagles drop two to Gulf Coast State

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (March 15, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College dropped both games of Thursday's Panhandle Conference softball doubleheader at Gulf Coast State College, falling by the scores of 11-2 and 8-3. 

The Eagles have lost their first four PC games and are 10-20-1 overall while Gulf Coast State (31-1, 2-0) has now won 31 straight games. 

In the opener, Gulf Coast State put runs on the board in each of its four at-bats en route to the 11-2, five-inning victory. 

After falling behind 2-0 through one inning, Tallahassee cut the deficit in half with a run in the second. Monica Marquez tripled then scored on D'kota Cassady's single. 

Cassady went 2-for-2 and Ismay Poot was 2-for-3 as the Eagles managed just six total hits against Commodores pitcher Chandler Sparkman. 

Gulf Coast State scored six runs in the second to knock out Tallahassee starter Callie Paine (3-5), who gave up eight runs and eight hits in just 1.2 innings. 

Tallahassee scored its final run in the fifth on Samantha Malik's two-out single. 

In the nightcap, Gulf Coast State again jumped out to a quick lead, scoring three runs in the first to put the Eagles in catch-up mode. 

Tallahassee got on the board in the second when Marquez tripled to score Olivia Russell. It knocked another run off the Commodores' lead in the third when Russell singled home Jaycee Thomas

Gulf Coast State got one of the runs back in the fourth then broke the game open with two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth. 

Tallahassee scored its final run of the game in the seventh when Thomas singled home Kacie Dobyanski

Thomas went 2-for-3, and Russell was 2-for-4. Both players scored a run and drove in one.

Tallahassee will host Northwest Florida State College (22-16-1, 0-4) on Monday for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
