#TCCSoftball: Raiders take two from Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 22, 2018) – Northwest Florida State College swept a doubleheader from Tallahassee Community College on Thursday, defeating the Eagles by the scores of 11-8 and 10-5. 

The Raiders (24-18-1, 2-6 Panhandle Conference) snapped a ten-game losing streak while picking up their first league victories of the season. Tallahassee (10-24-1, 0-8), meanwhile, has now dropped eight in a row. 

In the opener, Tallahassee was cruising, up 4-0 through four innings before the Raiders exploded. 

Northwest Florida State collected five hits in the fifth, the big shot courtesy of Venice Sanders, whose two-run homer put the Raiders in front 5-4. 

After Tallahassee tied the game in the bottom half on Callie Paine's sac-fly, the Raiders picked up where they left off in the sixth. 

Mallory Druhan's leadoff homer ignited a six-run inning to give the Raiders an 11-5 lead. 

Tallahassee didn't go down without a fight, however. The Eagles cut the deficit in half, scoring three runs in their half of the sixth. 

Samantha Malik's single scored Brandie Callaway with the first run of the inning. Olivia Russell's sac-fly plated Jaycee Thomas for the second run. D'kota Cassady scored the final run of the inning on Ismay Poot's single. 

Every starter had at least one hit for Tallahassee. Russell was 1-for-3 and drove in three runs. Malik went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. 

Sidney Mathis (3-8) took the loss for Tallahassee. 

In game two, the Raiders broke a 3-all tie with three runs in the fourth. Tallahassee answered with two runs in the bottom half, courtesy of a single by Russell that scored Callaway and Thomas. 

Northwest Florida State got the runs back in the fifth and added a couple of insurance runs in the seventh. 

Paine (4-6) took the loss for Tallahassee. 

Russell was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Monica Marquez was 1-for-4, scored two runs and drove in two. Poot was 2-for-3. 

Tallahassee will travel to Pensacola State College on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. eastern.
