#TCCSoftball beats NWF State for first PC win

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 16, 2018) – Sidney Mathis pitched a complete game and Samantha Malik's third-inning homer provided the deciding run in Tallahassee Community College's 2-1 win over Northwest Florida State College in Monday's home finale at the TCC Softball Complex. 

Tallahassee (11-32-1, 1-16 Panhandle Conference) picked up its first conference win of the season while ending the Raiders' hopes of forcing a three-way tie for second place. Instead, the Raiders will carry the PC's No. 4 seed into this weekend's three-team Panhandle Conference Tournament. 

Meanwhile, Pensacola State College (10-9) and Gulf Coast State College (10-9) will meet in Wednesday's regular season finale for the No. 2 seed and the right to host this weekend's event, where the winner advances to the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Tournament in Sanford, Fla. 

Mathis (4-10) allowed six hits and three walks over seven innings but Northwest Florida State could only manage a fourth-inning run, courtesy of Emily Sinclair's sac-fly to right that scored Venice Sanders. That cut Tallahassee's lead in half and Mathis made it hold up, allowing only two runners over the final three innings. 

The Eagles had base runners in each inning and stranded ten for the game but single runs in the second and third innings proved enough. 

D'kota Cassady's one-out double in the second started the Eagles' first scoring rally. She advanced to third on a groundout and came home on Brandie Callaway's single to left. 

Malik doubled the lead an inning later when she took Amber Byrd's first pitch in the third over the left field fence for a solo home run. 

Cassady was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Malik was 1-for-4. Ismay Poot was 2-for-4. Kacie Dobyanski didn't record an official at-bat but drew three walks. 

Following the game, Tallahassee announced a scheduling update for later this week. Because the games have no bearing on the PC standings, Thursday's make-up doubleheader vs. Chipola College has been cancelled. However, because the Eagles are already scheduled to visit Chipola on Wednesday, the teams will play a doubleheader instead of the scheduled single game to end the 2018 season. 

Game one is currently scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. eastern though that is subject to change.
