#TCCSoftball splits with Santa Fe
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (February 12, 2019) – Tallahassee Community College split a softball doubleheader at Santa Fe College on Tuesday.
Tallahassee won game one, 3-0, then fell in shutout fashion in game two, 2-0.
In game one, the Eagles scored three runs in their first at-bat and sophomore pitcher Sidney Mathis took it from there.
Mathis (4-4) tossed a four-hit shutout and struck out three. The Saints were only retired in order once and loaded the bases in the sixth, but couldn't break through against the Eagle right-hander.
Tallahassee did all of its damage in the first.
After leadoff hitter Katelyn Hobbs reached on an error, Monica Marquez singled and Lily Adams walked to load the bases. Following a fly out to left, Kathy Rios drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the first run.
Ismay Poot followed with a double to left, scoring Marquez and Adams.
Poot had two of the Eagles' three hits.
In game two, Santa Fe broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth, scoring twice for the 2-0 win.
Starting pitcher Emma Fowler (1-2) allowed only two hits through five innings but gave up a leadoff single to start the sixth. A defensive error on a sac-bunt attempt put two runners on with nobody out then a successful sacrifice advanced the runners to second and third.
Cameron Trehy's single through the left side scored Kaitlyn Bennett with Santa Fe's first run of the doubleheader. Karina Ortiz-Munoz' sac-fly made it 2-0.
Tallahassee advanced the tying runs into scoring position with just one out in the seventh but back-to-back ground outs to short ended the game.
Marquez, Olivia Russell and Poot had the Eagles' three hits in game two.
Tallahassee will return to play a week from today when it hosts Santa Fe for a pair of games beginning at 4 p.m.
