TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 20, 2019) – Tallahassee Community College's softball team dropped a pair of one-run decisions to Santa Fe College on Wednesday, falling 4-3 in game one and 7-6 in eight innings in game two.
Tallahassee is now 7-11 on the season.
In the opener, Santa Fe hit three solo home runs en route to a 4-0 lead through 3.5 innings.
Tallahassee used the long ball to get right back in the game in the bottom of the fourth.
After a leadoff single by Dyamond Brown and a one-out walk to River Glenn, Dev Ferguson smacked a three-run homer to left-centerfield.
The Eagles had the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position with two outs in the sixth but Monica Marquez grounded out to third to end the scoring threat. Tallahassee put the tying run on in the seventh but stranded Olivia Russell in scoring position.
Sidney Mathis (4-5) started and pitched three innings for the Eagles.
Ferguson was 1-for-3 with the three-run homer. Desera' Wishart went 2-for-3.
In game two, Tallahassee carried a 5-2 lead to the seventh and was one out away from earning a split. But with one run already in, Emily Yakel hit a game-tying home run and the Saints eventually won 7-6 in eight innings.
With the international tie-breaker in effect, the Saints scored two quick runs in the top of the eighth to grab a 7-5 lead.
The Eagles got one of the runs back in the bottom half. With Ferguson on second to start the inning, Brown doubled her home to cut the Saints' lead in half. A passed ball moved Brown, representing the tying run, to third. Two groundouts later, Brown was still 60 feet away.
Things got even more interesting after back-to-back walks to Glenn and Russell, but Lily Adams flew out to right to end the game.
The Eagles managed just four hits in the nightcap but took advantage of 11 walks issued by the Saints' pitchers.
Hobbs (2-for-4) had a pair of doubles and an RBI. Glenn and Russell walked three times each.
