#TCCSoftball: Eagles split with Thomas JV

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 6, 2019) – Tallahassee Community College's softball team split a doubleheader with the Thomas (Ga.) University JV on Wednesday, winning game one, 9-1, before dropping game two, 7-1.

The Eagles are now 12-12 on the season as they head to Columbus, Ga., for weekend action in the prestigious NFCA Leadoff Classic.

In the opener, the game went to the bottom of the sixth tied at one before Tallahassee exploded for eight runs, which ended things via the mercy rule.

Olivia Russell led off the sixth with a double and scored on Sara Brugnoli's two-RBI single. River Glenn added a two-run single later in the inning to increase the Eagles' lead to 8-1. In total, ten consecutive batters reached base to start the inning, the last being Russell, whose single scored Monica Marquez to end the game.

Russell, Glenn, Brugnoli and Lily Adams had two hits each.

Sammie Massaro got the win in relief of Sidney Mathis. Massaro pitched the final two innings.

In game two, Tallahassee jumped out to a 1-0 lead but Thomas scored five runs in the third en route to the 7-1 win.

Aliyah Guilliam was 1-for-3 and drove in the Eagles' lone run.

Emma Fowler took the loss for Tallahassee.

The Eagles will begin pool play at the NFCA Leadoff Classic at 11:30 a.m. Friday against Navarro (Texas) College.
