#TCCSoftball drops two to Santa Fe

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (February 4, 2020) – Tallahassee Community College's softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Santa Fe College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles lost by the scores of 9-1 and 8-4.

In game one, the Saints tagged Tallahassee starter Emma Fowler (0-2) for three first-inning runs, thanks to a pair of home runs.

A two-run homer in the third off reliever Shelbea Holland gave Santa Fe a 5-0 lead.

Tallahassee broke up the shutout bid in the fifth when a defensive error allowed Dyamond Brown to score from third, but the Saints plated four runs in the bottom half to end the game.

Brown went 2-for-2 in addition to scoring the Eagles' lone run.

Game two started in similar fashion as another big first inning staked the Saints to a 4-0 lead. This time, however, Tallahassee began to chip away at the deficit an inning later.

Esmee Toet homered with one out and nobody on to get the Eagles on the board, and Maddy Walther led off the fourth with solo shot to cut the Saints' lead in half.

Tallahassee got within a run in the fifth when Walther reached on a two-out error to score Brown, who drew a leadoff walk then stole her way to third.

Santa Fe regained control in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four unearned runs, all with two outs. Game two starter Emily Oakes (1-2) almost pitched the Eagles out of the jam but a bases-loaded double cleared the bases and an RBI-single followed to give the Saints an 8-3 lead.

Walter picked up her third RBI of the game with a one-out single in the seventh to cap a 2-for-4 game.

Toet also had a multi-hit game, going 3-for-4.

Tallahassee (1-4) will travel to Dothan, Ala., on Saturday to compete in Chipola College's Visit Dothan Invitational. The Eagles are scheduled to play Walters (Tenn.) State Community College at noon eastern than Pearl River (Miss.) Community College at 4:30 p.m.
