Fowler, Holland pitch Eagles past St. Johns River State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 12, 2020) – Emma Fowler and Shelbea Holland pitched complete-game shutouts as Tallahassee Community College swept a doubleheader from St. Johns River State College on Thursday afternoon. 

The Eagles took game one, 3-0, then won game two, 8-0. 

Pitching was the story on Thursday as Fowler (4-7) limited the Vikings to just four hits in the opener while Holland (1-1) tossed a five-hitter in game two. 

In game one, Esmee Toet broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. Stacey Hudson's RBI-single in the sixth provided an insurance run. 

In game two, the Eagles broke through in the second when Jania Davis singled home Jade Castillo. Alyssa Krausz' two-run homer in the third made it a 3-0 game then the Eagles put the game away with a four-run fourth. 

Katelyn Hobbs smacked a two-run homer to put Tallahassee in front, 5-0. Krausz added a two-run single to increase the lead to 7-0. 

Toet doubled home Dyamond Brown in the sixth to end the game via the mercy rule. 

Krausz was 2-for-3 with four RBI. Hobbs was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Hudson had two hits. 

In accordance with the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA), Tallahassee Community College has suspended all athletic events, effective Friday, March 13 and continuing through Saturday, March 28, as a result of the continuing developments surrounding COVID-19.
