Eagles drop two close ones at Santa Fe

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (February 16, 2021) – Tallahassee Community College's softball team dropped both games of Tuesday's doubleheader at Santa Fe College, falling by the scores of 4-3 and 3-1.

Tallahassee, who had not played since January 30 due to a string of rainouts, is now 2-4 on the season.

In the opener, Santa Fe held off a late charge by the Eagles to take the 4-3 victory.

Tallahassee scored a run in its first at-bat when Sheshe Ortiz singled home Emery Mayne with two outs. The Saints, however, answered with their own run in the bottom of the first and led 4-1 through four.

The Eagles made things interesting in the sixth.

After Ortiz reached on an error to lead off the inning, MacKenzie Childs' one-out double left a pair of Eagle runners in scoring position. Two batters later, and now with two outs, Jania Davis blasted a triple to center, scoring both runners and trimming Santa Fe's lead to just a single run.

Davis, representing the tying run, was stranded at third. She finished 3-for-4.

Maddy Walther's two-out single in the seventh put the tying run on base again but Ortiz struck out to end the game.

Isanthe Rouwenhorst (0-2) started and pitched four innings. She allowed four runs but only one was earned.

In game two, the Eagles scored their only run of the game in the third inning when Raven Little's RBI-groundout scored Davis.

Stacy Hudson, who went 2-for-3, was the lone Tallahassee player to record multiple hits.

Emma Fowler (1-1) tossed six innings in the circle.

Tallahassee will travel to St. Johns River State College for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday.
