Mayne’s one-hitter gives Eagles DH split

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 4, 2021) – Behind Emery Mayne's one-hit shutout, Tallahassee Community College defeated Coastal Alabama Community College-South, 2-0, in game two to give the Eagles a split of Thursday's doubleheader at the TCC Softball Complex.

Coastal-South picked up a 7-1 victory in game one.

After hitting the Sun Chiefs' leadoff batter and yielding a one-out walk, Mayne allowed a single to load the bases. Setting the tone for game two, she escaped trouble, inducing a fly out to left before striking out Graci Graves to end the threat.

That was Coastal Alabama's lone hit of the game, though the Sun Chiefs did continue to threaten early on, stranding a total of 11 runners through the first four innings.

Mayne (3-1) retired the final nine batters she faced and finished with three strikeouts.

Tallahassee broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth.

Raven Little led off the inning with a single and moved into scoring position when shortstop Madison Graham misplayed Mayne's grounder. After Little stole third, she scored on Aneyshka Aponte's sac-fly to right.

The Eagles gave Mayne an insurance run in the fifth when Maddy Walther singled home Jania Davis

Mayne scored the Eagles' only run in the opener. With one out in the third, she walked and was poised to hold up at third when Stacey Hudson singled to the right-centerfield wall, but centerfielder Tempest Hebert's bobble allowed Mayne to score and cut the Sun Chiefs' lead to 2-1.

Coastal Alabama answered with two runs in the fourth then put the game away with a three-run seventh.

Emma Fowler (3-5) started and went two innings, allowing two runs before being relieved by Isanthe Rouwenhorst

Davis, Hudson and Walther had two hits each for Tallahassee.

The Eagles will take a week off before hosting Santa Fe College on March 11. Game one of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
