Eagles drop pair on road at Chipola

MARIANNA, Fla. (April 16, 2021) – Chipola College maintained its spot atop the Panhandle Conference softball standings with Friday's doubleheader sweep of Tallahassee Community College, winning by the scores of 9-4 and 10-2. 

In game one, a four-run second put Chipola in front to stay against Tallahassee starter Emma Fowler (5-10). Three straight two-out hits – a double and two singles – accounted for all four runs. 

Tallahassee pulled within a run, scoring three times in the top of the third.

Jania Davis' triple scored Esmee Toet and Jade Castillo to get the Eagles on the scoreboard. After MacKenzie Childs walked, she and Davis pulled off a double steal, with Davis scoring from third to cut Chipola's lead to 4-3. 

Chipola scored four runs in the fourth to extend its lead to 8-3. 

Tallahassee scored its final run in the fifth when Childs' two-out single plated Davis. 

Davis was 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in two runs. Childs was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. 

In game two, Tallahassee jumped out to quick 1-0 lead after Davis, who led of the game with a single, eventually scored following a pair of Chipola errors. 

The Eagles didn't score again until the fifth when Alison Rodriguez, who led off the inning with a single, scored four batters later on Childs' groundout to second. 

In between, Chipola plated nine of its ten runs. A five-run second blew the game open and put the Indians in front, 7-1. 

Isanthe Rouwenhorst (1-7) started and took the game two loss for Tallahassee. 

Davis was 3-for-3 offensively for Tallahassee.
