Tallahassee wins three of four at Courtney Miller Invitational

LONGWOOD, FL (February 20th, 2022) – The Eagles went down to Longwood this weekend for the Courtney Miller Invitational and picked up three wins to move to 6-2 on the season.

In the first game of the weekend, the Eagles defeated Miami-Dade College 4-3 in nine innings. Kailynn James (Fr., RHP) pitched the entire game, allowing just two runs while striking out nine. Raven Little (Fr., INF) provided the most production on offense, recording two doubles, and driving in three of the Eagles' four runs.

Later that day, Tallahassee dropped a game to College of Central Florida, losing 2-0. Brittany Michael (Fr., RHP) pitched six solid innings, holding the Patriots to two runs, but the Eagles' bats failed to get going.

After struggling in the second leg of Saturday's doubleheaders, the Tallahassee offense woke up in a big way on Sunday morning, hitting four home runs en route to a 10-3 victory over Florida State College at Jacksonville. Brittany Michael was back on the mound and pitched another complete game, allowing two earned runs and striking out six. Aneyshka Aponte (Fr., OF) and Sydney Ray (Fr., LHP) each hit their first home runs of the season, and Kailynn James added two more to her tally.

In the final game of the weekend, it took extra innings for Tallahassee to defeat St. Johns River State College. Both teams scored three runs in the first inning and added one more each in the fifth. The Eagles jumped out for three more runs in the eighth inning, which was enough of a cushion for Sydney Ray to finish off the Vikings in the bottom half. She finished with eight innings pitched, giving up four earned runs and striking out nine.

Kailynn James hit her third home run of the day against St. Johns River, bringing her season total to a team-high five.

The Eagles will be back in action again this Friday at home, playing a doubleheader against South Georgia State College. Game one is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
