Eagles sweep conference doubleheader

TALLAHASSEE, FL (March 30th, 2022) – The Eagles picked up two conference wins at home over the visiting Gulf Coast State Commodores on Wednesday afternoon. Brittany Michael (Fr., RHP) shined, pitching 8.2 innings over both games.

In game one, Michael pitched a complete game shutout, striking out eight batters. She did not allow a hit until the top of the sixth inning.

"Her last three outings she has been tremendous," said Head Coach Patti Townsend, "today we just finally scored enough runs to get her the win. I just can't say enough about her. She's taken charge, confident, and throwing really well."

Raven Little (Fr., INF) hit two home runs in the game, including a two-run shot that extended the Eagles' lead to 4-0. Little now leads the team with nine home runs.

Sydney Ray (Fr., LHP) got the start in game two, throwing 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, and striking out three. Sheshe Ortiz (Fr., INF) drove in Tallahassee's only run of the game.

Brittany Michael, who started game two at first base, was brought in to relieve Ray in the sixth inning and recorded the last five outs to finish the game. Gulf Coast State loaded the bases in the seventh with just one out, but nice defensive plays made by Emma Patry (Fr., OF) and Raven Little stranded those runners and secured the victory.

"As long as we just stay in there and do what we do, we'll be okay," said Coach Townsend about the rest of her team's conference schedule.

This is the first time Tallahassee has pitched two shutouts in the same day since February 5th, 2017 when they held Indian River State and Palm Beach State to no runs at the Triple Crown College Classic in St. Augustine, FL.

The Eagles have the weekend off and will spend the next week on the road for two games each at Pensacola State and Chipola. They return home for two games against Northwest Florida State on Tuesday, April 12th
