Eagles stumble against Santa Fe

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (February 4, 2023) — After starting the season 3-1 at the JUCO Kickoff Classic, TCC went to Gainesville to take on Santa Fe in their first road doubleheader of the season. Santa Fe, who is ranked ninth in the Region 8 Coaches' Poll, won both games on Saturday afternoon.

Jolee Camp (RHP, Fresh.) got the start in the first game and went three innings, giving up three runs, only two of which were earned. When she departed, the Saints had a 3-0 lead and she was credited with her first loss of the season. TCC did not score their first run until the top of the sixth inning, when Brittany Michael (RHP, Soph.) doubled home SheShe Ortiz (INF, Soph.).

Sydney Ray (LHP, Soph.) came out of the bullpen and shut Santa Fe out for the final three innings, allowing just two hits, but Saints' starter Kensley Durrance was too much for the Eagles in game one. Santa Fe won the contest 3-1.

Santa Fe took an early 3-0 lead in game two in the bottom of the second inning. Kailynn James (1B/RHP, Soph.) got the start in the circle. After retiring the Saints in order in the first, James got herself in trouble in the second inning, walking four-straight batters and giving Santa Fe a 1-0 lead. That ended her outing early, and head coach Patti Townsend turned to Brittany Michael. Two more runs came across to score that inning, both credited to James.

Michael pitched the rest of the game, going 4.2 innings, allowing six hits, three earned runs, walking three, and striking out four.

Game two saw the Eagles bats wake up, including Raven Little (INF, Soph.) hitting her first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the top of the fifth inning. It was unfortunately too little, too late, and the Saints took game two 6-3.

TCC's home opener is this Tuesday, February 7th against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00, and will be streamed live here
