Dugout Talks: Discussing conference play with TCC Softball head coach Patti Townsend

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (April 3, 2023) — TCC Softball head coach Patti Townsend sat down to speak with Elizabeth Kanzeg about last weekend's wins over Chipola and what to look for down the home stretch of the regular season.

TCC came out victorious in a closely-contested first game on Saturday, defeating the Indians 3-2. They really found their stride in game two, forcing a run-rule in the 6th inning, winning 8-0. "This weekend was exactly who I think we are," Townsend stated. "It was really just a complete two games for us, I was really excited about them."

The team will head to Niceville on Tuesday, April 4 to face Northwest Florida State. This will be the second time this season these teams will meet for a doubleheader, the last time ending in a split when the Raiders were the top-ranked team in the country. They currently sit thrid in the NJCAA Division I Rankings. "Everything's starting to fall into place," Townsend said. "We're just looking forward to take off what we did on Saturday and keep the momentum going."

As the end of the regular season starts to come into view, Townsend is focused on making sure her team executes on the field and can reach the playoffs. "I think the biggest thing is staying focused the entire game and not just coming in a couple innings," she stated. "I'm really excited about seeing what they're going to do for the remainder of the games. We have four amazing pitchers, as long as we can just stay alive everyday it's just another chance to get to the state tournament."

The Eagles are currently 3-9 in conference play and 21-13 overall. They are tied with Chipola for fourth place in the Panhandle Conference. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the FCSAA Tournament, while the teams finishing in second, third, and fourth will compete in a playoff to determine who receives the league's second bid.
