Newcomers shine as TCC women win season opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 2, 2012) - Sophomore transfer Jeraldine Campbell scored a game-high 22 points to lead FCSAA No. 4 Tallahassee Community College to a 76-62 win over Albany (Ga.) Technical College in the Lady Eagles' 2012-13 season opener, played at the Tallahassee Democrat Tip-off Classic.

Campbell, a transfer from East Mississippi Community College, came off the bench to hit 8-of-15 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the free throw line, all in just over 20 minutes of action. She was not alone in delivering a successful Tallahassee debut.

In fact, all but four of the Lady Eagles' points came from players who were wearing a Tallahassee uniform for the first time.

Aiyannah Peal tallied 19 points, six rebounds and four steals. Karley Barnes added a double-double - 10 points and 13 rebounds. Aariel Allen scored 10 points and just missed a double-double of her own, finishing with nine rebounds.

Tallahassee exploded for 49 first half points and led 49-22 at the break, all but ending the game after 20 minutes.

Tallahassee (1-0) will continue play in the Tallahassee Democrat Tip-off Classic at 6:30 p.m. Saturday against Central Georgia Technical College.

Central Georgia Tech defeated Gadsden State (Ala.) Community College, 87-82 in double overtime, in Friday's first game.
