TCC men, women welcome Gulf Coast State for PC home opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 11, 2013) - Tallahassee Community College's men's and women's basketball teams have had six days to think about last Saturday's losses at Chipola College in the Panhandle Conference opener. Now, both teams are anxious to get into the winner's column in league play and will have the opportunity on Saturday evening when Gulf Coast State College storms into the Bill Hebrock Eagledome for a PC doubleheader.

Both games will feature a pair of teams ranked in this week's FCSAA Coaches' Polls, and the 5:30 p.m. women's tilt will showcase two nationally-ranked teams - No. 5 Gulf Coast State (17-1, 2-0 PC) and No. 22 Tallahassee (11-4, 0-1).

While Tallahassee was idle on Wednesday, Gulf Coast State picked up a 78-65 win at Pensacola State College. As a result, the Lady Commodores are the only 2-0 team in the league and, coupled with Northwest Florida State College's one-point win against Chipola, the remaining four teams all have one loss. That makes Saturday a prime opportunity for Tallahassee to keep pace with the upper half of the PC standings, where three teams will advance to the NJCAA Region 8 Tournament in March.

A win would also end a 16-game PC losing streak for the Lady Eagles, whose last conference win came against Gulf Coast State on February 8, 2011.

The PC men's standings look identical to the women's - a 2-0 team at the top (Northwest Florida State) and a quartet of one-loss teams, including FCSAA No. 5 Gulf Coast State (16-3, 1-1) and No. 10 Tallahassee (12-5, 0-1).

Saturday's men's game, scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip, will come 14 years to the day since the teams put on an offensive show for the ages at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.

On January 12, 1999, Gulf Coast State outlasted the Eagles, 145-138 in double overtime, in a game that established multiple records, including the highest scoring game in Tallahassee's history.

Saturday's games will be carried by Panhandle Sports Broadcasting at www.PSBlive.com.
