Second half surge sends St. Pete past Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 17, 2013) – FCSAA No. 4 St. Petersburg College outscored No. 7 Tallahassee Community College 37-25 in the second half en route to a 67-59 win over the Eagles on Tuesday afternoon at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.

Tallahassee, who has alternated losses and wins in its last five games, goes into the Christmas break at 7-8. St. Petersburg, meanwhile, improved to 9-3 and swept both games of this season's home-and-home with the Eagles.

Early on, it was all Tallahassee.

Marija Pacar came off the bench to knock down three quick three-pointers and Tyeshia Guinnie, who hit seven from long distance in Saturday's win over the College of Central Florida, connected on two of her own to help stake the Eagles to a 15-point lead (29-14) with 6:21 left in the opening half.

By the intermission, Tallahassee's lead had almost evaporated as St. Petersburg closed the half on a 16-5 run to trail 34-30.

The Titans continued their surge in the second half and when Baylie Bridges broke the last of seven ties with a basket at the 11:40 mark, St. Petersburg had a 46-44 lead and never trailed again.

Bridges finished with a team-high 15 points for St. Petersburg. Nina Krstic came off the bench to score 13 and Simonne Potts added 11.

Addesha Collins led all scorers with 22 for Tallahassee. Pacar finished with 11.

Tallahassee will return to action on December 30 when it hosts Hillsborough Community College on day one of the Best Western Holiday Classic.
