WBK: Eagles can’t overcome early deficit, fall 72-52 to Northwest Florida State

NICEVILLE, Fla. (January 21, 2015) – The Tallahassee Community College women could not overcome an early double-digit deficit in a 72-52 loss to Panhandle Conference foe Northwest Florida State College on Wednesday night in women's basketball action. 

The Eagles are now 3-2 in conference play, 18-5 overall. 

Tallahassee found itself in a hole early as the Raiders opened the game with a 20-0 run. Turnovers plagued the Eagles, which resulted in eight points during Northwest Florida State's opening blitz. 

Finally, with 13:36 left in the half, Jeremica Edwards got the Eagles on the board with a close range jump shot. Later, a 9-0 run by Tallahassee pulled the Eagles within single digits. Tallahassee also turned up the heat defensively, holding the Raiders scoreless for over six minutes to cut the deficit to 28-23. 

Northwest Florida State put together a run to end the half and entered halftime with a 36-25 lead. 

In the second half, the Eagles scored first and held the Raiders to one basket over the first five minutes. The result was a three-point game with 15:12 remaining. 

The Raiders pushed the lead back to double digits with 12:38 left in the game, a deficit the Eagles were unable to overcome. 

Edwards, who finished the night with 20 points and seven rebounds, led the Eagles in scoring.  She was also named the TCC Eagle of the Game

Cat Wells and Karley Barnes also scored in double-figures for the Eagles with 11 points.  Barnes also led Tallahassee with nine rebounds. 

The Eagles return home on Saturday, January 24 to face Pensacola State College.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.
