#TCCBasketball: Eagles pull away late to beat St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (December 10, 2016) – NJCAA No. 11/Region 8 No. 3 Tallahassee Community College scored 41 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from St. Petersburg College in a 104-77 win on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles have won eight straight games and now sit at 11-1 on the season, their best start in a decade. Tallahassee won 13 of its first 14 games in 2006-07.

Tallahassee jumped out to a 26-11 lead after the first quarter, but the host Titans outscored the Eagles 20-17 in the second quarter and 24-20 in the third to pull within eight (63-55) entering the final ten minutes.

Tallahassee exploded in the final quarter, however, outscoring St. Petersburg 41-22 and eclipsed the century mark for the fifth time in 12 games. Prior to this season, the Eagles had never reached 100 points more than three times.

Four players scored in double-figures and combined to score 89 of the 104 points.

Freshman Japonica James led the way with a double-double – 33 points and 10 rebounds in just 25 minutes of play.

Lawriell Wilson scored 25 and dished out six assists. Jas Hill had 17 points and five assists. Janessa Murphy scored 14.

Tallahassee will close out its pre-Christmas schedule with games Wednesday and Thursday at the Northwest Florida State College Winter Classic.
