#TCCBasketball: Eagle women beat Blue Wave for third time

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 29, 2016) – Tallahassee Community College completed a season sweep of Florida State College at Jacksonville, defeating the Blue Wave 81-41 on day one action at the Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic.

Tallahassee, ranked No. 3 in Region 8 and No. 11 by the NJCAA, tied the school record with its 11th straight victory – including three against Florida State College this month – to improve to 14-1. The Blue Wave, ranked No. 8 in Region 8, is now 8-6.

Although the Eagles never trailed, they did show signs of a two-week layoff. Tallahassee struggled offensively throughout much of the first half, leading just 13-6 after one quarter and 19-13 at the half.

After shooting just 32.4 percent (11-of-34) in the first half, the Eagles put the game away with a 28-8 third quarter.

Jas Hill's three-pointer in the final seconds finished the scoring and pushed the Eagles across the 80-point mark for the 15th time in as many games this season.

The Eagles' average margin of victory during their current winning streak is 30.5 points.

Lawriell Wilson scored a game-high 21 points for Tallahassee. She was joined in double-figures by Janessa Murphy, who scored 15, and Japonica James, who had a double-double – 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Tallahassee will host Northeast Mississippi Community College at 2:45 p.m. Friday.

Northeast Mississippi fell to Northwest Florida State College, 70-41, in Thursday's first women's game at the Classic.

Tallahassee Community College Athletics would like to thank the Leon County Tourist Development Council and Wendy's for its support of the Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic.
