#TCCBasketball: Hill, Eagles set marks in victory over NE Miss

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 30, 2016) – Freshman Jas Hill tied a school-record with 38 points and Tallahassee Community College set a school mark with its 12th straight victory, a 109-69 triumph over Northeast Mississippi Community College on day two of the Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic.

The Eagles will carry a 15-1 record into Panhandle Conference play, which tips off January 7 at Pensacola State College.

Hill's 38 points equaled the mark established by Jeraldine Campbell in 2013 at Gulf Coast State College. She hit 13-of-30 from the field, tying teammate Lawriell Wilson's record for field goal attempts, set earlier this month.

Speaking of Wilson, she added 31 points – the first time Tallahassee teammates have scored 30 points or more in the same game – and was credited with nine rebounds, nine assists and six steals, narrowly missing a triple-double.

Tallahassee turned a close game into a runaway with a dominant second half performance.

A high-scoring first half ended with the Eagles in front, 51-41, but they doubled their lead in the third, outscoring the Tigers 27-17. A 31-11 advantage in the fourth doubled the margin again as Tallahassee hit triple digits for the sixth time this season.

Japonica James recorded her third straight double-double, 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Janessa Murphy added 11 to give the Eagles four double-digit scorers.

Tallahassee, ranked No. 3 in Region 8 and No. 11 by the NJCAA, has won by an average of more than 31 points per game during the 12-game winning streak.

In Friday's first women's game, Northwest Florida State College defeated Florida State College at Jacksonville, 68-56.

Tallahassee Community College Athletics would like to thank the Leon County Tourist Development Council and Wendy's for its support of the Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic.
