#TCCBasketball: Eagle women roll past Pensacola State

PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 11, 2017) – Lawriell Wilson and Japonica James recorded double-doubles as NJCAA No. 9/Region 8 No. 2 Tallahassee Community College picked up a 101-75 win at Pensacola State College on Saturday evening.

Wilson continued her torrid scoring pace in league play with 28 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. James added 27 points and pulled down 17 boards.

Tallahassee improved to 21-4 on the season and 6-3 in Panhandle Conference play. Coupled with Gulf Coast State College's 72-62 loss to Chipola College, both the Eagles and Indians (6-3) moved within one game of the league-leading Commodores (7-2).

Tallahassee controls its own destiny for the Panhandle Conference's No. 1 seed with three games remaining beginning with Tuesday's home showdown against Gulf Coast State, a game that could go a long way in determining the order of the PC's top three teams.

After the first quarter ended in a 14-14 tie, Tallahassee dominated the Pirates in the second quarter, outscoring the hosts, 36-8.

Kiara Gaines' basket at the 5:51 mark capped an 18-2 run to open the quarter. The Eagles scored the final ten points of the quarter and took a commanding 50-22 lead to the locker room.

Tallahassee's lead grew to as much as 37 in the second half.

Two other Eagles reached double-figures – Jas Hill had 19 and Janessa Murphy, 13.

Gaines hit double-figures in rebounds with 10, as Tallahassee controlled the glass, outrebounding Pensacola State, 56-42.

Tuesday's game with Gulf Coast State will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
