Wilson selected as NJCAA First-team All-American

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 14, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College women's basketball sophomore guard Lawriell Wilson has been selected as a First-team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). 

Wilson is the first women's basketball player in school history to receive first-team All-America honors from the NJCAA and just the fourth NJCAA All-American overall, joining Tamilla Murray (1999, Honorable Mention), Shamar Harris (2008, Second-team) and Jeraldine Campbell (2013, Third-team). 

"Lawriell is one of the most competitive individuals I have ever coached," said Tallahassee head coach Franqua "Q" Bedell. "Her love for the game shows every night through her smile and fierce play. 

"She has worked hard to be the best scoring guard in the country, and it has been an honor to coach such a great player and even better person – she will be impossible to replace." 

A native of Kenner, La., Wilson put together a record-breaking career during her two seasons with Tallahassee, finishing as the Eagles' all-time scoring leader with 1,127 points. She also set the school's single-season scoring record with 678 points in 2016-17 and tied Tallahassee's single-game mark with 39 points against Palm Beach State College in the quarterfinals of the 2017 NJCAA District/FCSAA State Tournament.

Wilson's 2016-17 season was, arguably, the best statistical season in school history. 

She was the NJCAA's No. 3 leading scorer at 21.9 points per game, and averaged 6.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists, leading Tallahassee to a 23-8 record, No. 9 national ranking and its first appearance in the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship since 2001. Along the way, she was named Panhandle Conference Player of the Year by both the league coaches and media and became the first Tallahassee player to earn FCSAA State Player of the Year honors. Those awards also garnered her first-team All-PC and FCSAA All-State recognition. 

This marks Wilson's second All-America honor of the spring. Last month, she was named a first-team All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
