#TCCBasketball’s Wilson named NJCAA Player of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 20, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College's Lawriell Wilson has been named NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played January 9-15.

Wilson, a sophomore guard from Kenner, La., averaged 30.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 0.5 blocks in two games during the voting period. She shot 61.9 percent (26-of-42) from the floor, hit 2-of-3 three-pointers (66.7 percent) and 7-of-8 free throws (87.5 percent).

Wilson was dominant in a pair of Panhandle Conference showdowns with top 3 opponents.

She fueled Tallahassee's upset of defending national champion and Region 8 No. 1/NJCAA No. 1 Gulf Coast State College on January 10 with 29 points on 13-of-19 shooting, five rebounds and five assists. Last Saturday, she and the Eagles came up just short of winning at No. 2/No. 3 Chipola College, falling 91-86, but Wilson scored 32 points and recorded five rebounds and two assists.

Wilson is the first Eagle to receive NJCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors since Ashley White in 2009.

Wilson and her Tallahassee teammates will host Region 8 No. 6/NJCAA No. 15 Northwest Florida State College at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Eagles are currently ranked No. 3 in Region 8 and No. 11 by the NJCAA.
