#TCCBasketball: Eagle women earn at-large bid to Lubbock

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 12, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College’s women’s basketball is headed to the NJCAA Division I Women’s National Basketball Championship.

The Eagles, on Sunday, received an at-large bid to the event, which takes place in Lubbock, Texas, March 20-25. This marks just the second national tournament berth ever for Tallahassee, who brought home a third-place finish in 2001.

Tallahassee (23-7) will be one of three Panhandle Conference schools in the 24-team field. Chipola College also received an at-large bid on Sunday while Gulf Coast State College claimed the automatic berth from Region 8 after winning the FCSAA state championship on Saturday.

Gulf Coast State, Chipola and Tallahassee ended the season 1-2-3 in the Region 8 Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll and Nos. 3, 5 and 9 in the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Poll.

The remaining at-large bids were awarded to Seward County (Kan.) Community College, San Jacinto (Texas) College, Tyler (Texas) Junior College, South Plains (Texas) College, Harford (Md.) Community College and Motlow (Tenn.) State Community College.

Seeding for the single-elimination tournament will be announced at 4:30 p.m. Monday on Twitter @NJCAA. The top eight seeds will receive an opening round bye.
